We put this film on because we were going to go to Bruges the next day. I’d seen it maybe… 4 times previously, but that didn’t take anyway any of the enjoyment.

The plot of the darkly funny film, In Bruges, concerns two Irish hitmen (played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson) have a job go badly over in the UK and have to flee to Bruges so they can lie low for a while.

After a conversation with their boss, Gleeson gets the order to kill Farrell. But isn’t sure if he can go through with it.

I don’t want to say too much, as the film deserves to be watched. The director/writer has a theatre background, and the dialogue in the movie shows that. Its not an action packed, thrill ride. It’s a plot and character piece. It shows the city off, and despite Farrells character constantly taking jabs at it, it shows the beauty of the place too.

It’s a fantastic film that deserves a watch. If you’re in the UK (it might work internationally, I’m not sure) 4oD shows it quite often, as I think it was a Film4 production.

It’s not a long film, or a giant budget piece. Give it a watch if you have the chance - just be warned, its about two hitmen. There’s some violence.
